Tales from the Zeitgeist: A Quick Update

Stone walls, special for my homie Pablo Chattey. Don’t worry, Pablo! I’ve got more on the way for you!

Hey, all. Technology is a wonderful , right? It allows me to write from my phone (thumb typing, yay!), add in pictures, and then send out to all of you. But I am utterly dependent on it to do this communication thing. Add in a dose of “I’d like to take a night off” and a full day’s running around (left the hotel room at 7:30 am, didn’t return until 11 pm) and then no decent wifi and we find ourselves here: three solid days of trip to tell you about and no way to do it.

This morning we are at a small hotel in John O’Groats, the most northern point of the Scottish mainland. The wifi is intermittent and hasn’t much bandwidth. I tried to wrote last night and lost an hour’s writing before I realized the internet connection wasn’t up to the task. I was barely able to upload a few photos to social media.

Oh my. This all points to hours of writing ahead of me while simultaneously keeping up with Heather’s whirlwind scouting schedule. A bit intimidating. But I will try.

I wouldn’t want to skip it all, mysteriously referencing the time as The Lost Days in the Orkney Islands…

I think not!

I will hopefully have some down time this evening, perhaps tomorrow – but certainly by Saturday, in which to catch you up. In the meantime, back to your regularly-scheduled evening news, Netflix series and the like.

More soon, time and wifi willing.

  1. Ah, Suzie, I can truly empathize. This is what I live with in North East PA. The rest of the world finds it hard to understand, but now you know. Lura

  2. Wow, there’s more stone walls in that photo than I first thought and even a stone castle in the background. And if Scotland has named their Makar, they missed a bet with you! You’re clearly our Nuevo Mexico Makar and Travel Writer. So enjoying your blog and thank you for the stone walls. Pablo

  3. Suzie, just glad to hear you two are traveling safely and where you’ve made it to. You are supposed to be enjoying your new found freedom during pandemia, so post and share what and when you can…and good luck keeping up with Whirlwind Traveling Companion. you are a stronger woman than I….
In the mean time, I have been following your escapades virtually. I looked up John O’Groats, read about its Dutch settlement, checked out the google maps, tried to guess the hotel you two were staying in, the one you might scout for a tour stay…and what envy worthy meals and pastries you are enjoying… That, an audio book, a knitted cowl, work and garden keeping me busy. I’ve given up on Netflix…..
